Notes for J
OHN ROGERS:
John Rogers Dead

John Rogers died Sunday afternoon, December 9th, at 3:30 o'clock as a result of a stroke of apoplexy which he had Saturday afternoon. Death came at his home in the Sunny Side neighborhood.

Mr. Rogers was born in Philadelphia, Pa., January 10, 1844, and had the grim reaper spared him for one more month he would have reached the ripe old age of four-score years. At an early age he moved to Wisconsin with his parents. There he grew to manhood and on December 25th, 1867, he was united in marriage to Eliza Chappell. Fourteen children were born to them and twelve of the fourteen survive. From Wisconsin the family moved to Nebraska and thence to Iowa where Mrs. Rogers died September 16th, 1902.

Then the family came to Kansas where they have since resided. Mr. Rogers has made his home with his two daughters Misses Adda and Anna Rogers.

The surviving children are: Miss Adda Rogers, LeRoy [Kansas]; Mrs. F.H. Palmer, Burlington [Kansas]; W.C. Rogers, Brooks, Iowa; George Rogers, Chamberlain, S.D.; Edward Rogers, Clarenda, Iowa; F.J. Rogers, Clarenda, Iowa; Mrs. Ella Hawley, Leeds [Lead] S.D.; Miss Anna Rogers, LeRoy; Mrs. A.H. Johnson, Burlington; J.L. Rogers, LeRoy; Mrs. G.W. Johnson, Clarks, Nebraska; C.E. Rogers, LeRoy.

Mr. Rogers has been in poor health for a number of years and has not been able to keep up his personal friendships but he was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him.

The body was taken to Iowa, Tuesday afternoon and was laid to rest in Prairie Rose cemetery, Adams County.
