This is the beginning of a search from myself going both ways. I originally hail from Baltimore, Maryland USA.
So Far the direct links are:

? Kirkley - believed to hail from Kirkley Hall, Northumbria, England to:

(Edward)Thomas Kirkley - born in Baltimore Maryland abt 1825 and married a Sarah Upperco in Baltimore. He is known to have fought in the Maryland Regiments (Union) in the Civil War. Afterwhich he left his wife and went to Texas and is thought to have married a Mary McCambridge. My information ends here on him.

His brother John William has been identified as born in Kirkley Hall, Northumbria, Engaland abt 1818. he married a Sarah Shipley on August 14, 1839 in Baltimore.

Edward Thomas Kirkley - son of the above (Edward)Thomas Kirkley born April 3, 1853 in Baltimore Maryland. He married Anna Johanna Reese on 9 May 1879 in Baltimore.

Othello Wesely (Ollie) Kirkley b. 28 August 1903; d. Glenn Riddle PA 15 December 1977. (He had 12 siblings)

DUNCAN FEAST KIRKLEY (Me) b. 25 March 1940. married Anne Suttie of Edinburgh, Scotland in Edinburgh on 1 June 1963.

This is just the direct line. I have much more and will gladly share what I have; much of which has been compiled by Jim Kirkley of Durham NC.
