A Scots Lassie's Family History

I started travelling this very wyndey road back through time in 2004. Finding mysteries aplenty to grab and hold my attention, meeting previously unknown relatives from the Singing Islands of Orkney, finding out about family that had ranged far and wide all over the World, from Bonny Scotland to Majestic Canada, to Ancient, yet Cosmopolitan Australia, and beyond.
Very exciting stuff! And, just think, I've still got so much more to learn!

The biggest mystery at the moment is, who are my great great great grandfather's true parents??????? I have currently got two sets of details about his parentage, which are:
1. Name: Peter Kirkness
Born: circa 1807
1st Marriage: 9th July 1833 to Elizabeth/Betsy Laird in
South Ronaldsay/Burray Parish, Orkney, Scotland
2nd Marriage: 29th December 1864 to Elizabeth/Betsy
Harrold in South Ronaldsay/Burray Parish, Orkney, Scotland
Died: 16th April 1882, (aged 75 years according to his
headstone) in Burray, Orkney, Scotland.
*In both of his marriage records, and in his death record, it states; Parents: Robert Kirkness b. circa 1785 in Deerness, Orkney; Clement Woolridge b. circa 1781 in Orkney.

2. Name: Peter Kirkness
Born: 5th November 1809
1st Marriage: As option 1. above.
2nd Marriage: As option 1. above.
Died: As option 1. above.
** In this option, the only birth records have his date of birth as 5th November 1809, and his parents listed as: James Kirkness b. 1779 in Deerness, Orkney, and, Margaret Smith b. circa 1785 in Deerness, Orkney.

I'm sure you can see the problem?! The sources for the records mentioned above are the IGI, Local Parish Registers, National Registers, as well as some info I gathered from Census materials. Hopefully, one day, I'll be able to solve this particular mystery.
