I am currently researching my grandparents' names. George Francis Mayes, born April 04, 1888 in Norwhich(?) England, and Ethel Maude Rudd born June 26, 1888 in Norwhich(?) England. George was the son of Harriet Wickam/Wickham and Francis Mayes, brother to Nellie, Albert, Laura, Eddie/Edward, Fred, Harriet and Maud. Ethel was the daughter of Agnes Anne Cooke and William John Rudd, sister to Aggie, Bessie, Gerty, Dora, Fred, Hilda, Billy/William and Florry/Florence. George and Ethel arrived in Compton, Quebec, Canada in 1909 with their first born of seven girls, (Nellie)Ellen Maude Mayes (Mrs.Merle Anderson) born April 17, 1908 in Norwhich,England. George and Ethel added two more daughters to their list, while in Compton, Quebec-Florence Ethel Mayes (Mrs. Ernest Smith, later Mrs. Alvin Steeves) born June 26, 1909, and one year later Miss Doris May Mayes arrived, (never married)on December 30, 1910. The young family packed up and headed west across Canada arriving in the Olds, Acme, and Carstairs, Alberta area in 1911. Ivy Blanche Mayes (Mrs. George Green) visited the world for the first time on March 24, 1913 in Olds, Alberta. Gladys Lillian Mayes (Mrs. Cyprian "Red" Farrant) made her appearance in Acme, Alberta on February 06, 1916 and Christina Ruby Mayes (Mrs. Cecil Akre) joined the family in Acme, Alberta on December 18, 1920. Six lovely girls later (the oldest girl married and a family of her own)(the baby now twelve years old) Grandma must have missed the late night feeds and diaper changes, and on October 13,1932 my mother Betty Jean Mayes (Mrs. John McMillan) shocked the world with arrival. Now 42 years into my life I think it's time to find out more about our family.
