My g-g-grandmother, Louise Horstman,of Nordhemmern, Germany, married John Brune in 1856 in Cincinnati, Ohio. This log of the emigrant ship Ernestine, dated June 1854, shows the arrival of Louise Horstman (top of page) and her siblings. Her parents were shown on previous page. Her grandparents, the von Behrens, are shown about halfway down the page. Bound for Cincinnati, their ship arrived at New Orleans. Louisa and her husband John Brune in 1870 moved to Wyandotte County, KS.

The first time my picture appeared in a newspaper was at age 12, in this Kansas City Times (morning edition of the Star) article about my Dad, head state highway engineer in the Kansas City district at that time. I got to know many of my Klamm relatives and became interested in my famiy heritage for the first time while living in the KC area at that time.

Relatives of Christopher Klamm, including his widowed mother Suzanna, are listed on this 1843 log of a ship that landed in New Orleans. They came from Rheingonheim, Germany, where Simon and John Klamm were also from, and made their way up to Platte and Clay Counties in Missouri.

This is the U.S. citizenship form for John Henry Brune (Bruene) my great-great-grandfather, dated Feb. 8, 1860 in Hamilton Co., Ohio. He came to America with his brother in 1854 from Hanover, Germany. He first settled in Hamilton County, Ohio where he officially declared his interest in becoming a US citizen on November 1, 1856. He and his wife Christina Horstman later settled with her parents in Wyandotte County, Kansas, about 1870. This was shared with me by Tina Brune, a distant cousin.

This ship log record shows the family of my g-g-grandfather, Simon Klamm, among passengers aboard the ship Germania on their trip to the New World in June 1852. The ship left Havre, France and arrived in New York. Simon & family, from near Mannheim, Germany, made their way to western Missouri where he later had a farm in southern Platte County.

This stone marks the restored grave site of Major Hugh Kelso (1758-1829). I was accepted into Sons of the American Revolution in 1981 based on this ancestor's proven service in the Revolutionary War. After the war he operated a grist mill and ferry, and helped establish the town of Morganton, Tennessee.

This 32-acre park, at 22nd and Cleveland in Kansas City, Kansas, is located on land that was part of the farm of Christopher Klamm. His descendants donated the land for use as a city park in 1912.

Amazingly, I was able to meet a long-lost first cousin, John P. Kile, Jr., at a Kile family reunion in Tulsa, Okla., May 16, 2010. How I found a previously unknown first cousin, John P. Kile Jr., of Discovery Bay, CA, is an amazing story. The son of my Uncle John Kile, Sr., John, Jr. overcame early adversities to become a successful enterpreneur and father of a wonderful family. We met for the first time at a Kile reunion in Tulsa, Okla., in May 2010. My dad, myself, and brother Richard, shown at left, posed for pictures after the reunion with John, his wife Ann and two daughters, Kirsti and Kim. Kim found my website in 2007, and this led to our eventual meeting for the first time.

This is the grave of Blackmore Hughes Mayo, a Cumberland Presbyterian minister, in Monroe County, TN. He died in 1845. He was the son of Valentine Mayo and Martha Hughes.

This is a copy of the inventory of estate for the "original" Valentine Mayo, who died in Virginia in 1716. He is my 7th generation great-grandfather. He married Ann Jordan, a rich widow, and they had a son, James Mayo, who fathered a number of sons who served in the American Revolution. I'm descended from James' first wife, Ruth, who died 4 days after giving birth to the couple's only child, Valentine.
