November 10, 1999 Received a kidney donated by son John at St. John's Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Surgery started at 10 a.m. Surgery took 7 1/2 hours because when son John was operated on the doctors discovered an extra artery that was 2 inches long that was hidden by his kidney so it took 2 1/2 hours longer to graft the artery into me. I was in the hospital for 5 days and after 60 days of seeing Dr. Henry Oh he released me back to Dr. I. Salah. I will have to see Dr. Oh in May, 2000 and November 2000 and then once a year after that. I have a rare blood type of AB Postive and my son John has the same blood time. I am very lucky to have a son that was willing to give me one of his kidneys and he saved my life. I was very close to total shut down on both of my kidneys. I am thankful that I didn't have to go on dialysis. I am on a lot of medicine so my body won't reject my son's kidney. I was only out of work from November 8, 1999 until December 12, 1999.
I am planning on retiring from Eton Academy on June 30, 2003.
