Notes for J
AMES DARLINGTON:
The DARLINGTON name first appeared in records as "de Derlintone", prior to 1258/59, when it appeared as "de Derlington". In 1318 the name appears in the Calendar of Letter Books, City of London, as "de Derlingtone". Darlington is a place name from Darlington in Durham (England). The name also appears in Scotland in 1281, but does not appear in any known Irish books. The Darlington's most likely came to Ireland when England put English families in "The Pale", which was Dublin and vicinity. The greatest concentration of Darlington's seems to be in Dublin, but our line has been traced to Wexford. In any case, the Darlington name, while quite common in England, is very Uncommon in Ireland.

James Darlington's occupation was listed as "Farmer" on the marriage record of Francis Darlington and Elizabeth Kirwan Hughes.

Buried in St. Patrick's Churchyard, Castletown, Co. Wexford with wife, Ellen Kavanagh Darlington. Approximate DOB is determined by age on headstone. Also buried with James and Ellen is a granddaughter, Ellen, who died in 1896 at age two years. Who her parents are is not known, but it is possble that she is the child of Francis and Elizabeth Kirwan Darlington. They were married in 1894, with the first known child being born in 1896. They had a daughter named Ellen, born in 1902.
