BENJAMIN5 HODGES led an adventurous life. He was only 15 when he went on the whaling voyage and saw his father drowned. He enlisted in the Revolutionary Army, and served in Rhode Island almost continuously from April 1777 to April 1778, first as private in Capt. Israel Trow's company, then as corporal in Capt. Silas Cobb's company, and lastly under Capt. Samuel Fales. In 1779 he served 3 months under Capt Joseph Richardson, in New York. Very likely he saw other service, the record of which
