These are some of my relatives and ancestors of Eddings and Pitts, my mother's side of the family, that settled in and around Nacogdoches Co., Texas.

The Eddings came to Rusk Co., Texas about 1850, William Robert Eddins/Eddings and wife, Elizabeth, moving there from Alabama. He and his family later moved to and farmed near Woodville, Tyler Co. before settling in Wonders, of northeastern Nacogdoches Co. Two of his young sons are buried near there in the Walnut Grove Cemetery outside of Garrison, Texas. Later some of the Eddings offspring moved to the Harmony community in western Nacogdoches County.

The Pitts had already settled in the Harmony community in the early 1870's, Nehemiah Pitts and family moving from Mississippi by wagon train. Nehemiah's brother, James Norvell Pitts, joined him there a short time later.

William Robert Eddings, Nehemiah Pitts and James Norvell Pitts are buried in the Harmony Cemetery in Nacogdoches Co., along with many of their descendants. James Norvell Pitts donated the original four acre tract of land for the cemetery and church there.

An Eddings/Pitts Family Reunion is held there every year traditionally on Father's Day Weekend, but recently changed to the 2nd Saturday of every June. After much good food and conversation some daring individuals still take a hike out into the woods to try and find the "Big Ditch", a secluded ravine with a small waterfall located on Pitts family property.
Update: at the 2007 Harmony Homecoming Reunion I learned that the land that includes the "Big Ditch" has been sold and is no longer in the hands of the Pitts family.

On October 16th, 2004, there was a Civil War Confederate Marker Dedication ceremony held at the Harmony Cemetery to honor Nehemiah and James Norvell Pitts, who fought for the Confederacy out of Mississippi. Members from the Stone Fort Camp #1944, Sons of Confederate Veterans were present in period uniforms. Ladies from the Henry C. Hancock Chapter #2364, United Daughters of the Confederacy also attended in period dress. There was a twenty-one gun salute by musket fire in memory of these resting old soldiers.

It was my attendance at that ceremony that launched my interest and research into my family tree.

**Note: There is 2,000 name restriction for the "My Family History" section of my Family Tree Homepage. Therefore, it is difficult to properly present my family tree, which presently is a database of over 13,000 names. I would need approx. 6,000 names to present the descendants of William Robert Eddings, James Norvel Pitts and Nehemiah Pitts. Therefore, only the descendants of Joseph Calvin Eddings and William Griffin Pitts are included in this section.

You can click on the link at the bottom of this page to view my entire family tree database on RootsWeb.com. However, for privacy reasons, the only information appearing for any individual considered to still be living is their last name. Please contact me if you need additional information on any of the living.

This is the most complete compilation of these Eddings and Pitts lines that I am aware of. My greatest satisfaction in this endeavor is knowing that the information presented might help someone else to connect with their ancestry. It is through the help and information provided by many people that this home page has been made possible. On October 13th, 2006, I added the 10,000th name to my family tree database. Please help me to make it better by sending any additions, corrections or comments to my email address- rayman664@hotmail.com
