I am researching the John DOWDLE family of Macon County, South Carolina. My Grandfather William Washington DOWDLE moved to Limestone County, Texas in the early 1870's where he married M.Carolyn Sanders. Mother's FLOWERS family goes back to Captian John FLOWERS of England, but other lines include ALLEN (Green County, Arkansas), BARBER (Fla. and Green Co. Ark.), GWIN (Tenn. & TX. My James BRANDON B/Tennessee and also lived in Missouri was reported in a book that he died in Missouri, but actually moved to Texas. Apparently he had property in Missouri, so the author assumed he died there, but the 1850 Texas Mortality schedule showed and will proved otherwise. He left a widow and children in Texas.
Daddy's grandfather, Joseph Berry POOLE married Francis Savannah BOLEN. (Her mother was an ABBOTT from Georgia. Joseph's father was James Washington POOLE of Arkansas. He was a census taker, tax clerk, a store clerk, and a soldier. I found an article in a paper about how he was almost killed in a street fight in Paragould, Arkansas in 1837. Unfortunately, we have not been able to connect him with his parents. We do know the name was changed from PETTIPOOLE and he was born in SC. This branch of the family is the most difficult.
I will be happy to share information and would appreciate any information. I have more data than I have been able to enter but will continue to make additions.
