A brief overview/research starting point for the Kneavel family centers in Baltimore,Md. My father, Thomas George Kneavel, was born on Feb 18,1918,in Baltimore. His brothers and a sister were: John,Mary,Edward,James,Melvin and William. Thomas's mother was Agnes Bucyzski(sp?). Thomas's father's name was John C. Kneavel. Thomas's father was also born in Baltimore and had brothers who were police and firemen. Thomas's grandfather was Mathias (Matthew)Kneavel(Kniebel?)born in the Pomerania region (West Prussia)Germany. The original/historical spelling of the name is believed to be "Knievel". The original spelling of the name was angicized to Kneavel after arrival in this country in the 1870's. I am attempting to trace any connection to "Evel" Knievel, as records show many of the "Knievels" entered America from Germany via Baltimore. Additional research on mother's side. Mother, Kathryn Mae Nelson. Her father Arthur Peter(Peder) Nelson(Nielson)was a prize fighter in the West, served in the US Army around 1901, was a town deputy in Tucson,Az, circa 1915, and was a oil driller in Yorba Linda,Ca in 1920 and helped drill the first oil well on Signal Hill (Long Beach, Ca). Her mother Lovica McConnell, was born March 18,1893,in Mindora,Wisconsin. She had six brothers and four sisters. Lovica's fahter was James McConnell, was born March 20, 1833,in Portage Co., Ohio and fought for the Union Army, 1st Wisconsin Light Art'y in the Civil War.His father David McConnell, was born in Crawford Co, Pa in 1794. Her mother was Mary L. Hom,(family AKA Horn) born Sept 10,1853 in Wisconsin. Her parents were James Cline Hom and Laura Wyman-Hom. They had eight children. Interested in discovering family history/members for my family mentioned above.
