2. Marcus Luther² Welsh (Joseph Martin¹)^8,⁹ was born March 1865 in Talladega County, Alabama ¹⁰, and died 1961 in Piedmont, Alabama¹⁰. He married Mary Anne Tillery December 24, 1890 in Talladega County, Alabama, daughter of William Tillery and Emaline Morrison. She was born March 09, 1870 in Talladega County, Alabama¹⁰, and died August 13, 1950 in Rock Run, Alabama¹⁰.

Marcus L. Welsh is a 45 year old farmer. His wife is Mary A. who is 40 years old. They have been married 18 years and two of their three children are still alive in 1910. Their two sons are Aurthur, 18 and Thurston, 13. Both work on the farm. There is also a 10 year old girl, Lula, who is listed as their daughter. However, according to this same census, Mary only had two living children. There is a family story about a girl who lived with Marcus and Mary for a while, however, she left and wasn't heard from until after Marcus died.

Marcus and Mary were born in Alabama as were their parents. Authur and Thurston were also born in Alabama. Everyone in the family could read and write and all of the children, including Lula, attended school. Marcus owned his farm, and had a mortgage.
