Family Research of Paula Umberger-KnightUpdated October 11, 2006 |
Links below for my Y-DNA & mtDNA interest. Also Photos & Links. ________________________________________________________________ Some names in my tree: Umbarger/Umberger, Smith, Felver, Legacy, Caleo, Long, Hamilton, Davis, Crabtree, Dalton,Andrew, Ammon, Griffin, Baker, Davis Some names in my husbands tree: Knight, Warwick, Wood, Stanley, James, Cross, Lowry ________________________________________________________________ Dead end: my g-grandfather, Samuel Lee Umbarger/Umberger. Raised around Morrison Tn. Warren/Coffee Co. born 3-5-1863/64. Possibly in Morrison, TN, died: 12-19-1937 in Harlan Co Ky. Married Beatrice Louise Rose on 10-19-1892 in Dayton TN, Beatrice was born:10-17-1876 Isoline Tn., died: 1-1-1938 Verda Ky., she was the daughter of John W. & Martha (Piffin) Rose. My father, grandmother, and other relatives have always said that Samuel was orphaned & raised by Barbary Umbarger. In the 1870 Coffee Co. TN Census, in Barbara Umbargo's household, there was a Martha 24, possibly her daughter, who married John Crouch, also listed: her daughter Rebecca 12 (illegitimate child of Jesse Dixon Hulett), alos listed: my g-grandfather Samuel Lee age 6. Some have listed our Samuel Lee Umbarger as a child of Jesse Dixon Hulett also, but I believe this to be incorrect. In Barbara's household there was one other Samuel, Samuel Rufus that lived only 1 year I believe they are confusing her Samuel, with our Samuel that she raised for relatives. Samuel’s death certificate states that his father's name was ‘John’, born in Germany, and mother ‘not named’, also born Germany. Some Umbergers did immigrate to this country during the 1800's from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, though the first Umbergers came to this country about 1733. I don't know if parents were actually born in Germany, but they did speak German, Samuel's Bible was written in German. One census states his parents were born in Germany and one states they were born in TN, and we know how faulty census records can be. I have often wondered about other variations of Umbarger, such as Ambergy etc. In German, the A was not always closed, looking like an 'H' or 'U'. ______________________________________________________________ James W. Knight (My husbands line) b: 1822/25 ? Va. Died in Ohio. He married Emily A. Cross b: 1827/28/30 ? in Maryland also died Ohio. They had 7 children: John George, Edward, Susan, Robert, Sarah, Emman. Robert Lewis Knight. The son of Robert Lewis is Ray Emmons Knight, which is my husbands father. (Ray Warwick Knight). These Knight's were in the Lebanon Ohio area, but supposedly came from VA. ________________________________________________________________ Oliver Julius Legacy / Legassee (My X-husbands family) b. 12-2-1911 Ware Mass. d. Miami Florida. M. Mary Caleo (her 3rd marriage). Lived in Springfield Mass. when son James (Jimmy) was born. Later lived in Norfolk VA. I now have allot of the Legacy ancestry links from Canada to France. ________________________________________________________________ mtDNA link: George & Louise Long. They divorced. Louise was born Louisa Hamilton. She m. to John Davis, TN - widowed, then George W. Long-Lee Co. VA., then a Crabtree - Middlesborough, Bell Co., KY) A Lee Co. VA records shows George Long m. Louise (Davis) widowed, daughter of D. Hamilton & S. Hamilton. George was married many times. |
