In retirement I have had the time to search my family lines: namely, KUHL, WETZEL, LEGNER, KNOPF, HORN, ARMSTADT/ALGENSTADT.
The Meinard Johann KUHL line originated in Kreis Karthaus, West Prussia. Meinard Kuhl married Charlotte Ernestine Gust about 1818.Their oldest child was Bertha b. 1 Sep 1820 in Langbusch, Kreis Karthaus d. 10 May 1916 Metz [Presque Isle County], Michigan. She married 3 times. First, to Reinhard Roy who died before their first child, LOUISE ROY was born. Louise b. 21 March 1842 Kozitzkau Mühle, Kreis Karthaus married WILHELM HARDIES b. 24 June 1948 in Barlomin, Kreis Neustadt, West Prussia. Louise and Wilhelm homesteaded in Belknap Township [Presque Isle County], Michigan in 1869. Louise and Wilhelm Hardies came to America in 1866.
My KNOPF line originates with Charles S. Knopf [b.15 Aug 1833 Schneidemuhl, Kreis Deutsch Krone, West Prussia- d. 4 April 1914 Rogers City [Presque Isle County], Michigan. He married Pauline Goltz [b. 24 Sep 1839 Klausdorf, Kreis Deutsch Krone, West Prussia - d. 4 April 1901 Belknap Township [Presque Isle County], Michigan. Charles and Pauline came to America in 1869 with son, 1. Herman [b. 10 April 1865 Klausdorf - d. 17 Aug 1937 Rogers City, MI], who married Wilhelmine Algenstadt in Belknap and 2. Emilie [b.11 June 1868 Klausdorf - d. 29 March 1919 Belknap Township, MI], who married Friedrich Flemming in Belknap. Charles and Pauline's other children were: 3. Carl [b.20 Jan 1872 Detroit, MI - d. 20 July 1873 Detroit], 4. Albertine [b. 10 June 1874 Belknap - d. 17 Aug 1962 Jacksonville, FL. Albertine never married. 5. Anna [b.28 April 1876 Belknap - d. 6 Dec 1954 Belknap], who married Charles Grulke [25 Dec 1870 - 27 Oct 1943 Belknap]. 6. Auguste [b. 17 Aug 1878 Belknap - d. 16 Aug 1933 New Baltimore [Macomb County], MI, who married Erwin Wendler [8 Nov 1870 Ira Township [St. Clair County], MI - 8 July 1945 New Baltimore [Macomb County], MI. 7. Paul [b.30 Sep 1880 Belknap - d. 14 Sep 1966 Rogers City, MI], who married Anna Hamann [b.13 Sep 1886 Passewalk, Kreis Brandenburg, Vorpommern, Prussia - d. 21 Aug 1965 Rogers City, MI].
Bertha Kuhl's 2nd marriage was to Gotthilf Wetzel [1816 - 1859]. They had 5 children: 1. Armeade Wetzel [b. 1843] who married Rudolph Friedrich Hoeft and remained in Rambow, Kreis Stolp, Pommern, Prussia. 2. Julianne Wetzel [b. 1846] who married Heinrich Friedrich Schahr and then Johann Schulz and remained in Lupow, Kreis Stolp, Pommern, Prussia. 3. Emilie Wetzel [b. 1854] who married Ernst KUNATH. They came to America in 1885 and settled in Alpena, MI until 1928 when they went to Cleveland, Ohio. 4. Eduard Wetzel [1856 - 1909] married Bertha Hingst [1861 - 1936] and came to America in 1887 with daughter, Adelheide [b. 1883], who married Wilhelm Schultz. Jr [1876 - 1960] and son Paul [1886 - about 1888]] and settled in Metz [Presque Isle County], MI. 5. Johanna Wetzel [1858 - 1943]who married Albert Legner [1858 - 1932]. Johanna and Albert Legner came to America in 1881 with Albert's father, Theodor Franz Josef Legner [1818 - 1901]. They settled in Alpena, MI until 1897 when they bought land in Metz,MI.
My HORN line originates with Friedrich Christian Horn [b. 13 April 1816 Pommern - d. 14 June 1880 Rogers Township [Presque Isle County], MI, who married Wilhelmine Henriette Teßmair [b. 1823 Pommern - d. 20 April 1894 Rogers Township, MI. Their children were: 1. Bertha who married Carl Henry Armstadt and lived in Moltke Township [Presque Isle County], MI; 2. Robert Julius who married Mathilde Wenzel and lived in Rogers City until 1890, then in Detroit, MI until 1901 when they moved to Solvay [Syracuse], New York; 3. Anna who married Frederick Reif and lived in Detroit, MI; 4. Charles who married Bertha Quade and lived in Rogers City, MI. The Friedrich Horn family came to America in 1865 from Klötzin, Kreis Schivelbein, Hinterpommern, Prussia. Friedrich Horn was instrumental in the formation of the Lutheran churches
