I am researching the ancestors of the KNOX family of Pittsbugh and Washington, PA. Hugh KNOX, b. 6/24/1851, d. 8/1/1918, arrived in the U.S. from Ireland in either 1870 or 1880, depending on the census one wishes to believe. Hugh's father is listed as "unknown" on Hugh's death certificate. Hugh's mother was Anna FALLS. Prior to 1880 Hugh married Elizabeth (Lizzie) BROWN, b. 12/1854 or 1864, in County Derry, Ireland, daughter of Joseph and Nancy BROWN. Hugh and Lizzie had two sons; Joseph T(homas), b. 11/1873, m. to Henrietta MONAHAN, d. 10/5/1937, and William James, b. 10/1876, m. to Margaret L. PRATT, d. 1933, and one daughter; Essie (Esther?), b. 2/1881, m. to John G. WILLSON, d. 12/1/1962.
The above genealogical work was done by my daughter, mostly through census and cemetary records with some oral history contributing. Now we would like to leap the pond to Ireland, however, we have little to work with when heading in that direction. Any contributions of information will be appreciated. We will, of course, share information that we have with others who are interested.

We are also interested in the surnames YEAGER, JAEGER, and SIEGMAN from western PA, originating in Germany; PRATT and MACDONALD from NJ and western PA, originating in Scotland; and BROWN and PATTERSON from western PA, originating in Ireland.

We wish you good luck with your research!
