Notes for Wilhelm Krayer:
In a letter from Renee to My Dear Claire dated May 29, 1973, Renee wrote: Grandpa [Wilhelm] was Mayor of Arlesheim, a suburb of Basel. He was manager of a Bank and very appreciated in the country. He was quiet and silent, a true man, also on account of his position as banker, Mama said often that he was too severe with his two boys [William and Edward], so they decided to emigrate to U.S.A. They broke Grandma's heart who never could forget the fact to be separated from her two sons for a lifetime. I may say without false pride that our grandparents were of a very good family, well educated and good mannered. In the pastimes, parents wanted to be obeyed without taking notice of their children's desire. Grandpa was an officer in our Swiss Military Milice Army and what he said had to be done. With much love, Renee.
In a letter from Renee to Dear Claire dated July 21, 1978, Renee wrote: Nobody of the name Krayer is anymore in Arlesheim. The house [left side of Church] is still the site of the bank in which our grandfather [Wilhelm] was head manager and where a big and beautiful flat [apartment] was included upstairs. The best memories of my childhood I collect from there, when I came here for vacation once or twice a year, first from Paris [France] where I was born and then from Neuchatel where I went to school. The church, one of the most reputable in this country, is about 20 minutes drive from where I reside. With much love, Renee.[Krayer.ftw]
