Jared attended preschool at Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church when he was 4 and 5 years old.In 1992, he started kinder garden and continued through second grade at Springwoods Elementary School.He attended third grade at Old Bridge Elementary School.In school, his favorite classes were the Gifted Program, math, and spelling.He began homeschool in 1996.
Jared became a Tiger Scout when he was six years old and went on to earn his Bobcat, Wolf, Bear and Webelos ranks in Cub Scouts.While at Scout Camp at Goshen, VA, he wanted to come home only because he missed his English Sheepdog Ellie and survived despite the food.He finally earned Cub Scout's highest award--the Arrow of Light.
He became a Boy Scout in February 1998 and quickly progressed to the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class Scout.He attended Brady Saunders Scout Camp near Richmond.During the Summer of 1998, Jared earned the C&O Canal Award when he biked the entire 182 miles of the C&O Canal--travelling from Washington D.C. to Cumberland, MD.
In 1993 Jared played soccer for the Dale City Vipers.In 1997, Jared also played roller hockey for the Dale City Lightnings who were undefeated and won the league championship.In 1996 and 1997, Jared played football as a halfback, linebacker, quarterback and defensive end for the Dale City Giants.Both years, he lead the team in tackles, sacks, and safetys and during his second year he received the Team's Defensive Play of the Year award.In 1998, Jared played on the Dale City Steelers as a offensive and defensive lineman.His team went undefeated and won the Regional championship.
Jared's favorite hobbies are playing computer games, watching Steeler football games, reading newspapers and magazines.He enjoyed collecting sports cards and matchbox cars, swimming, skating, debating politics and aggravating his father.He is a notorious pack rat.He would spend hours making lists of anything he could depending on the most current event or subject at hand.
In 1990, Jared was the ring bearer for Kevin and Jan Robitaille's wedding in Bangor, Maine. During this trip, he visited Quebec City, Canada.In 1998, he went on vacation with his Uncle Paul and family to the Outer Banks of North Carolina where he learned to like tea, sushi, and power lunches.During the summers, Jared would normally spend a week with his grandparents in Lancaster, PA together with his cousins.
Jared started taking piano lessons from his father when he was in kinder garden.Jared's favorite type of music is Contemporary Christian music.He was gifted at quickly learning hymns and classical music.
In 1996 and 1997, Jared travelled to the State Capitol in Richmond, VA and visited his State Delegate and Senator.He was introduced to the State Senate, made a presentation on homeschooling to the House of Delegates, and toured the capitol.In 1997, he made a presentation to the Prince William County School Board on the topic of homeschoolers taking a class in the public schools.In part because of Jared's work, the Governor signed a law giving Public School money if they allow homeschoolers to take a class.Jared is an avid Conservative Republican and will debate or fight any liberal Democrat he meets including family.
