* The Koch Fox Family of South Dakota*

Updated July 23, 2008

I am researching the Jacob Koch family, who lived in Berks County PA during the 1790's. Jacob (27 Mar 1794 - 28 Aug 1877) was married to Mary Ann Smith (Maria Schmidt)(29 May 1803 - 26 Sep 1883) in 1819 in Union County, with Reverent William Heim officiating. They later moved to Centre County, where as farmers their family included 15 children.

Four of the brothers--Tasker, Jacob Jr., and Franklin, were in the Civil War in Company D, 148th Infantry from PA. A fourth brother, Samuel Leo Koch (he spelled it Koach) was a lieutenant in Company D, 100th Infantry from IL. He was captured and spent about 18 months as a prisoner of war in Libby Prison. It is believed (based on verbal information from Jim Mainerd Koch that a fifth brother, James, who had moved to MO, was required to fight for the Confederate side in the war.

I am also researching the William F. Wells Family. He married Belinda Peters Snyder on 14 Oct 1866 at the Congregation at Pine Ridge Church in Pike County PA. They later lived in Forreston, IL, Wood River, NE, Custer, SD and Dillon, MT. They had 7 children.

I would appreciate any information related to this research. Please feel free to contact me. I am willing to share information.
