Creed died August 12, 1898 in Surry County, N.C. at the age of 51 years old. It is thought that his death was due to the chronic condition he had when he returned from the Civil War, probably Tuberculosis. Malissa Norman Creed died sometime after 1921 in her seventies. Her death was caused from pneumonia caught after falling from a foot log, which was used to cross the creek on their property. Hugh and Malissa are buried in a small family cemetery on the property where they lived in a rural area in Low Gap, Surry County, N.C. The place is not visible from the road and is in a wooded area marked only with a few rocks and boxwood bushes. 1 The initial B is probably for Bennett after his grandfather and great-grandfather. 2 The initial M is probably for Moore, his mother's maiden name, or Matthew, a well used family name.
