Peter Bedsaul Peter Bedsaul was born May 15, 1826 and was the son of John Bedsaul b abt 1798, and Delilah Carrico. John was the son Elisha Bedsaul, Jr. b 1775 and Margaret Edwards. Elisha, JR's parents were John Bedsaul b 1750 and Sarah Brown. John was the son of Elisha Bedsaul, Sr. and Mary Unknown. John Bedsaul and Delilah Carrico had the following other children: 1.) Sarah Bedsaul b 1819 2.) James Bedsaul b abt 1822 Married Mahaly Dotson September 10, 1860 in Carroll, Co., VA. 3.) Peter was the third child. 4.) Mary Bedsaul b abt 1830 5.) Malvina Bedsaul b abt 1831 6.) Elijah Bedsaul b abt 1834 Married Mary Unknown 7.) Martha J. Bedsaul b abt 1838 Married Unknown Fortner 8.) Wilkinson Bedsaul b abt 1840 Married Juliny Unknown Peter Bedsaul married Malinda Baker, daughter of Isaac Baker. She was born August 12, 1822. Peter and Malinda had the following children: 1.) Mary Jestin Bedsaul b July 31, 1847 in Grayson Co., VA. She married Train R. Goodson, son of Leander and Nancy Brannock Goodson on April 11, 1870 in Allegheny Co., NC. She resided in Grayson Co., VA and died January 5, 1927. 2.) Malvina or Malinda Bedsaul b February 13, 1850 d bef 1860 3.) Delia Bedsaul b September 20, 1851 4.) Sarah Elizabeth Bedsaul b August 20, 1854. She married Joseph R. Dotson and died March 28, 1897 in Carroll Co., VA. 5.) John Matthew Bedsaul b March 14, 1854 in Carroll Co., VA. He married Alverta Davis on October 25, 1879 in Surry Co., NC. He died March 6, 1893 in Carroll County, VA. 6.) Martha L. Bedsaul b April 13, 1859 and married James Buchanan Dotson on September 9, 1880. She died June 15, 1930 in Galax, Grayson County, VA. 7.) George Washington Bedsaul b June 17, 1860 in Carroll County, VA. He married Willie Jane Davis March 9, 1882 and died January 31, 1932. 8.) Margaret N. Bedsaul b abt 1864. Peter Bedsaul was a member of Company B, 51st Infantry of Virginia during the Civil War. Peter was a woodcutter at the shot tower in Wythe County, Virginia. This shot tower can be seen from Interstate 77 and is the site of a State Park. Peter was killed March 3, 1863 by a falling tree. It has been passed through generations that Peter did not die immediately and when word was sent to his wife, Malinda in near by Carroll County, she immediately mounted a horse and road to the site although she was pregnant at the time. Malinda applied for pension for his service on September 18, 1888 and was granted $33.00 per year. She died in 1911.
