He married NANCY JANE DICKENS July 23, 1891 in Surry County, NC, daughter of ALBERT DICKENS and JINCY JOHNSON. She was born July 14, 1868 in Surry County, North Carolina, and died September 21, 1950 in Carroll County, Virginia.

It is said that William Goodson had a "humped back" and it was believed to be caused due to the fact his mother was crippled and when she was going somewhere and came to a fence, she would just pitch him over it till she
could get over herself.

John Woodrow Golding told me that Nancy Dickens Goodson was blind in one eye. We were looking at a photo of Nancy taken from a side view. He said she always preferred the side view because of her eye.
When she was a very small girl, two of her brothers set her on a calf. They started our holding on to her but eventually turned loose of her. When the calf took a few steps, Nancy fell off. The field had recently been cut and Nancy hit her eye on a stob sticking up out of the ground.
