Marriage Notes for Harold KOEHLER and Mary WILLIAMS:
She first met Harry Koehler at Central High School in Evansville, IN, when Harry and some other Seniors (she was a sophomore) were brought into her homeroom to help class sizes. She said when she saw him that he would be cute if he weren't so little.
Her friend got her to laughing once in class, for which she was sent to a corner to stand. As class was letting out, he came up to her and assured her this teacher wasn't so bad; he had her for French and she really was pretty good, just lost her temper a little. He then introduced her to his girlfriend in the hall. Mary passed the girl's home on her way home, herself, so the two became friends. Mary lived at 3rd and Delaware at the time, Harry lived on the present site of what was later to become the Mead Johnson plant.
When Harry and his girlfriend would go out, Harry would insist that Mary come along. He brought along a date for her.
When Harry's girlfriend told him she wanted to date someone else, he began visiting Mary. Practically every night he came over "for dancing lessons," she said. During the 1937 flood he would catch a boat part of the way, but usually walked the distance between his house and hers. They were really good friends but soon fell in love. Shortly after she graduated, they were married.
