This page contains the genealogy of Burikh Lieb Sapoznik's children who emigrated to the United States from Odessa, Russia (now Ukraine) at the beginning of the 20th Century. Burikh died circa 1909 in Odessa. His wife's name was Tauba, but I know nothintg else about her. And unfortunately I have not been able to learn the name of his or her ancestors. Burikh's son Avraam (later known as "Abe") arrived in the United States with his wife Rose and child Theresa between 1902 and 1904 and ultimately settled in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Burikh's daughter Sara, who was Avraam's twin, arrived in 1906 with her husband Abraham Schwartz and two children, Jean and William. They settled in Cleveland, Ohio. Burikh's son Selig arrived in 1909 with his wife Sadie Bashava Reiss and children Rose, Albert, and Harry, and they settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Selig later changed his first name to "Charles". The family name is Sapoznik. In Russia, adding "koff" meant "from or of the family of ..." As was the custom in the United Staes, persons coming from Russia tended to add the "koff" to their name. Early on the famliy changed the spelling of the last name to "Saposhnik", and then dropped the "Sapoznik" part of the name and used only "Koff" as their last name.
The entire story of the family is in the Genealogy Report below, and it is as complete as I have been able to assemble it as of this date. This work is obvioulsy a work in progress.
In addition to the Genealogy Report, I have loaded on the site a family tree and other custom reports. However the website has a limit of 5 custom reports and that includes the Genealogy Report and the tree. For addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses or other special information please contact me. In addition, any corrections or additions will be greatly appreciated.
Our site is avaialble as a news and message board. Please send all items to me at the e-mail address below and I will post the information promptly. Pictures are especially welcome.
EXPLANATION OF THE LISTINGS IN THE GENEALOGY REPORT: The software prepares the Genealogy Report by assigning a number to each descendant. However, descendants who are last in the line do not have a numbered paragraph. Their vital statistics appear under their parent's name. With one exception the numbers throughout the text are footnote references to the source of the information. The one exception is the number which appears after the listing of the first child of a parent (it is in smaller type). That number refers to the generation number of the children. Individuals listed in the Report are grouped first according to generation, then by ancestor, then by birth date.
NEWS: Welcome our newest relative, Beau D Rhodes, born September 21, 2009. He is the son of Todd Rhodes, the grandson of Marc Rhodes, the great grandson of Tillie Schwartz Rhodes, the great great grandson of Sara Saposhnikof Schwartz, and the great great great grandson of Burkih Lieb and Tauba Sapoznik.
