| S. Koi Researching : KOI - KOY - KOYI - KOJI - KALMAN - HALMI - NEJBAUER ------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE NOTE THAT MY ROOTS WEB DATABASE GEDCOM FILE ON WORLD CONNECT PROJECT IS ALWAYS BEING UPDATED. YOU MAY E-MAIL ME FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. TO ACCESS THE DATABASE, REFER TO THE LINK BELOW. THANK YOU. ------------------------------------------------------- Looking for information on Gaspar Koi (b.7/1/1890 in Hungary, d.11/3/1934,Ohio). It is believed that he had two brothers named Andrew and Benjiman, although it is possible that Gaspar was the only one to come to America (probably not registered) from Hungary into Canada, after deserting the Hungarian army. Gaspar married Barbara Merle Halmi in Whitewood, Sask., Canada (Bekevar Presbyterian Church) on 2/12/1919. Note that Barbaras middle name of 'Merle' was actually her first given name at birth in Hungary, but later changed. They both moved from Canada to Ashtabula County, Ohio 3/25/1924 through port of Detroit (documented). Gaspar died in a tuberculosis sanitorium in McConnelsville, Ohio 11/3/1934. His death certificate states that his fathers name was Ben. A picture also exists of a Frank Koi that is supposed to be Gaspars brother. Also documented is the arrival of Sandor Halmi, wife Barbara, and 3 daughters Barbara, Julia and Alice into Canada 1/10/1911 on vessel Montazuma, through port of St. John N.B. Note that the whole Halmi family was mispelled and listed as HALIM on the Canadian passenger list. Also note that the Koi family in Ashtabula County was improperly listed on the 1930 census as KAI. The name KOI is correct on the enumerators sheet, but transferred to the database as KAI. There is some evidence that there are some family ties with another Koi family that are descendants of Aaron Koi (b.1/25/1880, d.7/18/1965). This family was in the Grove City, Pa. area. There are also family ties with another Koi family who emigrated from Hungary into Canada (Pal & Barbara Koi), but changed all of the childrens last names to KOY while in Canada. The children of this KOY family are Geza, Gyula, Laci(Leslie), Ethel, Sandor. Members of this Koy family lived in the same area (Kipling, Whitewood, Bekevar) in Saskatchewan, Canada and migrated into the U.S. into Michigan. Members of both KOI families and the KOY family are seen in various pictures together, although I am looking for the documented family links. It is possible that the father of Gaspar Koi was some type of judge in Hungary, possible dates between 1880 through 1920 (surname possibly being KOYI or KOJI). Gaspar Koi was also in the Hungarian army sometime between 1905 through 1915. Also researching 'Kalman' which is the maiden name of the mother of Barbara Halmi. Barbara Kalman had a brother named John, both lived in the Saskatchewan, Canada area. Daughters of John Kalman were Edna, Ethel, Margaret, Alice, Anni. John Kalmans wifes first name was believed to have been Lydia. I am looking for any information on the KOI - KOY - KOYI - KOJI - KALMAN - HALMI surnames that may possibly be related, especially from people in Canada and Hungary. ------------------------------------------------------- Refer to the Related URL Links below to take you to the RootsWeb World Connect pages for the following families: 1) - Koi Genealogy Database (Gaspar Koi) - this database contains the documented lineage of the Koi family that was known to migrate from Hungary to Saskatchewan, Canada to Ashtabula, Ohio. 2) - Koi Family History Database (Aaron Koi) - this database contains the documented lineage of the Koi family that was known to migrate from Hungary to the Grove City, Pa. area. 3) - Tarvainen Family History Database - this database contains the documented lineage of the Family that has a link to the Koi (Gaspar Koi) family with the marriage of Onni Sandfield to Rose Koi on 3/11/1949. |
