MARRIAGE: Walter and Lulu divorced and he married Elizabeth Lola Dow on 19 July 1911 at Lowell, Massachusetts. They divorced later and he remarried for a third time to Olive Gertrude (Stanchfield)Thayer at Ware, Massachusetts. 31 January 1925.

Karl McIntyre's step-mother, Bessie, was also my mother's older sister, Hazel. (Father & son married sisters) Mama told us children years ago how her sister thought her married name to Walter would look more sophisticated if written with an "Y" instead of the "I" so she changed the spelling more to her liking.
Consequently Bessie's 2 step-sons, Karl and Raymond, being young at the time, began to follow their step-mother's example, using the "Y" instead of the "I"

Following pattern of their father's the sons of Karl, (Charles, Robert, Stuart, and Scott) also continued to use the "Y" in signing their names.
This will explain why some of our forebears sign their name with an "I" but decedents of Karl use the "Y".
Sincerely, R. McIntyre
