California Rites for E. Platzer

Ethel Marie Fisher Platzer, 65, formerly of Indianola, died of cancer Tuesday, Oct. 23, at a National City, Calif., hospital.

Services were held Friday morning at St. Marys Catholic Church in National City with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery beside her first husband, Marion Fisher.

She was a native of Lacona, and a past member of the Royal Order of Moose.

Survivors include her husband, Carl; a son Richard L. Fisher of San Diego, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Sharilyn Taylor of El Cajon, Calif., and Teresa Sparks of National City; her father, John Ripperger of Indianola; a sister, Bertha Baker of Des Moines; six brothers, Edmund, Robert, Bernard and Richard Ripperger of Indianola, Edward Ripperger of Ackworth and Matthew Ripperger of Forsyth, Mo.

Services held Friday for Ripperger

Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Ripperger, 70, of Indianola were held Friday, July 18, at Overton Funeral Home. Interment was in the Indianola IOOF Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Ripperger died of a kidney ailment Tuesday, July 15, at Hillhaven Convalescent Center in Des Moines.

Born in Pleasantville, she had attended school at Ackworth and high school at Indianola and St. Marys. She lived in Indianola the past 26 years and previously had lived in California for several years.

Survivors include her husband, Edmund; three sons, Larry of Augusta, Kan., Dennis of rural Indianola and James of Adel; one sister, Marie McCollom of St. Ansgar; and five grandchildren.

Matthew Gerald Ripperger, 83, of Indianola, died July 14, 2003, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston of natural causes. Services were held July 18 at St. Aquinas Catholic Church with cremation following. Peterson Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mr. Ripperger was born in Lacona. He retired from Skaggs Hospital in Branson, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, the American Legion No. 165 and Knights of Columbus, all of Indianola. He enjoyed family, friends and music. He played several instruments and was known for his fiddle playing.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Indianola; one daughter, Elaine Szalay of Lancaster, Penn.; two sons, Richard of Davenport and Scott of Ames; two brothers Bernard and Richard, both of Indianola; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to his church and Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
