OBITUARY

MRS. JOHN RIPPERGER

On June 28th, the community of Rosemount and surrounding territory was shocked by the unexpected death of Mrs. John Ripperger.
She was just and foremost, a true and loving mother, deeming it not only her duty, but a privilege cherished by every loyal mother, manifesting her motherly instinct, which in her was developed to an exceptionally high degree, in the sanctuary of her own home. Although only 41 years of age she was the proud mother of eleven children, three of whom have gone before her to their eternal reward, eight still remain to mourn her death, and continue in that happy atmosphere she so faithfully instilled into their young hearts, though absent in body her spirit will ever linger on, and to her bereaved husband and loving children, she will continue to reign by her spirit and the beautiful example of her saintly life, as the absent queen of her happy family.
The same spirit of loyalty, love and faithfulness that she manifested in the sanctuary of her home, was characteristic in her every day life, in her church duties as a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church of Rosemount, of which she was a member all her life.
She always realized that her first duty was to God, then her home and unselfishly she manifested the same loving spirit to all her relatives and friends who deeply mourn her loss.
She was born October 24, 1886, and 25 years later on her birthday she was united in marriage to John Ripperger, and she had the unique distinction of dying in the same house where she was born.
She was buried from the Rosemount Catholic church on July 2nd, interment in the Rosemount cemetery.
She was laid to rest with the solemn services of her church conducted by Rev. Vincent Ebinger, a Missionary priest from St. Gabriel's Monastery, Des Moines, who is substituting for the pastor, Rev. Father Judge, who is absent on leave to his home. Father Vincent preached an eloquent and very interesting talk appropriate to the occasion. While extending his sympathy to the bereaved, he paid high tribute to the deceased as a real type of a true mother, that he thought she sacrificed her life as a martyr to motherhood.
It is written, "A Little Child Shall Lead Them," and again "Whatsoever You do to the least of my Brethren, You do unto Me."
As Father Vincent put it she sacrificed her life to God for the sake of her
child, who was buried two days before her death.
And the thought came to him, which perhaps everybody thought but nobody uttered and it was this, that not only a little child lead them, but it was the hope and prayer of all, that her own child for whom she died, would meet her at the threshold of eternity to lead her into the happy Mansion of eternal bliss.
The church was too small to accommodate the large attendance at the funeral, a high tribute to the respect in which she was held by the community in that vicinity.
