This was taken when my Uncle Alpheus Cary Koon, Jr. was with the Ballet Theatre (later and now American Ballet Theatre). This was taken during the performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City circa 1944. Left: Alpheus Cary Koon, Jr.(1918-1969), Right: Dame Alicia Markova. This is an original photograph given to me by my grandmother, Jennie Carlyle Powers Koon, and she is the mother of Alpheus Cary Koon, Jr. He partnered many other very famous ballerinas such as: Alicia Alonso, Nora Kaye and Rosella Hightower!
