Monument to Alpheus Cary Koon, Jr.

Monument to Alpheus Cary Koon, Jr.
This is the monument, to my Uncle Alpheus Cary Koon, Jr. He, as seen on this web site, danced with Dame Alicia Markova and many other famous ballerinas. He danced with the St. Louis Municipal Opera from 1939-1940, Ballet Theatre (now American Ballet Theatre), the Original Ballet Russe, Radio City Music Hall, and CBS and NBC television. He formed the Tampa Ballet in 1953 with my grandmother, Jennie Carlyle Powers Koon, making the costumes. Priscilla MacDonald was his "Prima Ballerina". I danced with the Joffrey Ballet myself, before going on to get my college education, and am working on my doctorate as of January of 2002! He was a great man! He finally taught what he new while playing the piano and instructing at the same time! My grandmother and I both respect him, his abilities and genious always. Love you, Uncle Alpheus.
