This is a picture of me and my mother's, Clovis O'Deal Word, best friend. I am about two and 1/2 years old in this picture. Polly McNulty was my mother's best friend. She was always there for us, and gave blood to my mother when we thought she was going to die in 1971 (Mamma was 39 years old at that time). She remained steadfast in her love and devotion to not only myself, but my father and siblings during and after my mother died in 1973. She died in 1987 of cancer and it was my father, Wiley Emmett Koon, MD, who found her cancer after Shand's Hospital (a national teaching hospital in Gainesville, Florida) could not. She was such a special lady, and this is why I find it appropriate to place her on my web site! What a woman!
