This Family Page is a Tribute to my Grandma Julia Ferraro Bongiorno. Mariano Francesco Paolo Ferraro came to America with his wife Salvatora Giuseppa Riccobene and their children from Polizzi Generosa Sicily on May 17,1902 aboard the SS Gallia. Traveling with them were 3 of Salvatora's sisters. They came to Brooklyn, New York to their nephew Dr. Ignazio Loncao and to Mariano's older brother Calogero Ferraro who had come to America the previous year with his wife Maria Polizotto and their family. Mariano and his wife Josephine and their children lived in Brooklyn until 1908 when they moved to Paterson, New Jersey. The last two children, Peter and Joseph were born in Brooklyn. The information on my family was first taken from family stories that were told to me by my grandmother Julia, my mother Josephine, and my uncle Louis. Based on those stories I then spent several years obtaining the balance of my information from the following sources. Census Records, Social Security applications, Ship Manifests, City Directories, Naturalization Papers, Birth, Marriage, Death Records, and Newspaper Obituaries. |
