* The Cardwell & the Bierscheid Families*

Updated January 21, 2007

Relying on my notes taken while my grandparents were still alive, and my memories, I have started a Family Tree for future generations, including my own grandchildren. Grandpa, Harry E. Cardwell, was born in 1892 to parents, Charles Henry Cardwell & Betsy Ann Presley, in North Plantagenent Township, Prescott County, Ontario and came west around 1912-15. He met & married Grandma, Eva Mae Bierscheid, in Melville, SK. in 1916, later moving the family to Regina, SK. Two brothers also came west, Fred settling in Melville & Charles in Edmonton, AB. I don't know if they came west together or not.

I'm relatively new to tracing our family, but have been very fortunate in still having three of my mother's siblings to draw on for information about their generation. I have also gathered information from first cousins and cousins who are two & three times removed. I'm in the process of trying to trace my grandfather's siblings, I have all their names, but only a few dates at the moment.

In hopes of jogging memories, my mother was the first Miss Regina (1946) and competed in the Miss Dominion of Canada pageant in Hamilton, Ont.

Red-haired children seem to pop up occasionally in the family, myself being one. Grandpa used to tell me his brother, James, had red hair too.

Names like Edith, Edward and Fred tend to be used & reused, sometimes confusing me, so I hope I get the lineage in the right order.

My desire was to complete the family's history within five years, starting with my great-grandparents. As other information becomes available I will continue on with the Cardwell Family Tree. Contributions from all descendants of Harry's siblings: Charles, Tom, James, Fred, Edith, Lottie & Martha, would be greatly appreciated. Or from anyone having information about G-Grandpa Charles' parents.

During the week of Nov. 7/04 I had contact from a branch of the family in Ontario who are direct descendants of my Grandpa's sister, Edith. This contact will hopefully open many doors for both sides of the family that we didn't know before.

My daughter, Lillian, was surfing the various genealogical sites & came up with a site for the Presley-side of the family (my G-Grandma Betsy's family). I have noted the link to this site at the bottom of the home page. If you have the time, please go to this site & see if you recognize any of the names as they, too, are spread out across Canada from Ontario to B.C. into the States and around the world.

THE BIERSCHEIDS:
I’m also working on Grandma’s side, the Bierscheids, most of whom are from the USA. Starting with very little, I have gathered quite a bit of hither-to-unknown information from my Uncle Harry & this has led me to sending out letters to the USA, with a few surprising successes.

With the assistance of two of my Grandma's nephews (sons of her sister, Kay) in B.C. I was able to get in touch with another nephew (son of her sister Martha Jean, Kay's twin) in California & had a lovely long phone conversation. I'm hoping this will lead to more information for the Bierscheid side of our family.

I've not been able to work on the family history as much as I would like to have, this past year & a half, & am still in the process of gathering information. I will try to be more persistent with my efforts from here-on-in & enter the info so everyone can keep up with our new found relations.

As you can see, this is fast becoming an obsession and now includes many branches of the family.

I’m looking for information on any family members that include the surnames: Bailey, Bierscheid, Cardwell, Chalmers, Davison, Krauss, Melzer, Presley, Pudel, Selmes, Zerr.
