| Research into my origins was inspired by a shoebox of information (and misinformation) accumulated by my mother, Ena Lee BALL, who intended to compile a family history. This was given to me by my father, Wayne Lee BROWN, after Mom's death in 1977. Intending only to organize and record the contents of the shoebox, I developed a consuming interest in genealogy -- like mother, like daughter. Ena Lee BALL's father, Addison Kidd BALL, died when she was young and all we knew for sure was his date and place of birth, December 7, 1853 in Monon, White County, IN. Subsequent discoveries take his paternal ancestry back to Edward BALL and Keziah OSBORNE, both of whom emigrated separately from England to VA as indentured servants ca 1690. A.K.'s mother was Martha Ann KENTON, the granddaughter of Simon KENTON, a noted frontiersman who once save Daniel Boone's life. Ena's mother, Martha Cordelia FORNEY's maternal line is DILLMAN which we have traced back to Elias DILLMAN (DIEHLMANN/DIELMANN) in Germany/Prussia ca 1688. Martha's FORNEY line ends with her father, Abraham Charles/Christopher FORNEY who was born February 4, 1830/1834 in OH, but recent clues are promising. Now we come to my father, Wayne Lee BROWN's side of the family. His father was Ora Lee BROWN, son of Milton BROWN, son of John B. BROWN who was born April 30, 1807 in Cambridge, England and emigrated from there with his mother (unknown) ca 1828 to Franklin County, MO. Scuttlebutt from relatives found on Internet suggests that John B. BROWN may have been the illegitimate son of nobility or an affluent family who settled enough money on him to emigrate (taking his mother with him) when he was old enough to do so and to buy a farm in MO. John B. BROWN is the end of that line to date. Wayne Lee BROWN's mother, Dora FRENCH's line has been proven back to Peter FRENCH/FRANTZ who met and married Rosanna RULE/RUHL ca 1793 in the vicinity of Lancaster County, PA. From there they moved to Botetourt County, VA until the spring of 1816 when Peter FRENCH and his family moved to the Stock Creek Community, Knox County, TN. Dora French's maternal line goes from her mother Amanda JOHNSON, to Amanda's father Thomas JOHNSON where it ends, but information found recently takes Amanda's mother, Martha RODGERS, line back several generations. Any assistance with my quest will be appreciated. I will also share what I have. |
