My Father’s Branch: In the early 1880’s, into Clearfield County of west central Pennsylvania, came my father’s paternal Prussian ancestors:Karl STREICH (or STRIKE) and Henrietta HOHNKE from Province of Posen; Johann KRAMP and Johanna MASCH from Stolpe, Pomerania; and Charles M. WAGNER from Danzig. These regions are now in Poland. The families centered their religious life around the Saint John’s German Lutheran Church in Houtzdale; their occupational life, around the coal mines.Circa 1900, Otto STRIKE, son of Karl and Henrietta HOHNKE, moved to Barnesboro, Cambia Co., PA, and married Emily RUSSELL, daughter of Thomas W. RUSSELL and Ellen HARTLEY.Otto and Emily were my father’s biological parents. The Russell family immigrated in 1881 from Durham Co, northern England, and before that, circa 1848, from Lanarkshire, Scotland.Related patriarchs who also immigrated from Durham were William HAZELTINE (or HESELTINE), William HARTLEY, and Thomas DAWSON. The Descendent Charts which are linked to this page present only the earliest generations for which I have data.My father, nee. Robert Karl Strike, appears in the Descendent Charts of both Thomas Russell (as direct desc) and Johann Kramp (adopted).Robert was the last-born child of Emily Russell and Otto Strike.Robert’s mother died a week after he was born in 1918, and he was then fostered and eventually adopted by his aunt, Mrs. Martha (Streich) Kramp. The Dark, Missing Link:Julius Streich, (b. 1880 in Posen, Prussia; d. ?), the brother of Otto and Martha, was last seen in Barnesboro, PA, around 1904.He married and then abandoned Leah Lewis, dtr of Job and Ellen of Decatur Twp, Clearfield Co.Julius and Leah had one child, Martha Strike, b. 1904. In about 1920, Leah married secondly to a Delbert Lininger; moved to Potter Co, PA; and they had a child, Marcia (m. Lentz) I still need information on Leah's first husband, Julius Strike. Other citations on the WWW include:(1) Several Kramp, Strike, and Hohnke persons can be found in World Family Tree, CD Vol 2, Tree no. 3170, Kramp, Henderson, Bundy.(2) The FEEFHS web site (Die Vorfahren Pommeranian database) lists items for Kramp, Hohnke, Strike; I was member and submitter, RCK-1838. (3) I posted a "Kramp Family Tree" using a free "Registered Guest" account at Ancestry.com. My Mother’s Branch: My mother’s ancestors on both sides immigrated into the burgeoning Steel City of Pittsburgh, and settled in the ethnic borough of Braddock. Her paternal branch descends from Anthony GAILLIOT of Wesel, Germany. Two of his sons, Karl and Henry, came to Pittsburgh in early 1880’s and married into the JUND and DUMOULIN families, recent arrivals from Alsace. Karl Gailliot's family remained in the environs of Pittsburgh, whereas Henry's family, except for one son, escaped the red dust of the steel mills and bought a farm in Alexandria, VA, in 1920. My mother's maternal branch emigrated in 1903 from Canton Thurgau, Switzerland. Joseph AUSTEL, son of Franz Austel and Veronika NEISSER, at the age of 52, brought over his younger children, but two married daughters (m. SCHLUMPF, RINK) remained overseas. He also brought his second wife, Rosa FREDERICK and mother-in-law of his first wife, Maria GUTGSELL. The Gutgsell family was originally Wintzenheim, Alsace.
