Hello Everyone, We hope that you are enjoying your summer. The weather has been unseasonably cool this summer. July is usually very hot 90+ but this year it was in the low to mid-eighties most of the month. For those of you who haven’t been to California and in particular the Los Angeles area I’ll give you a heads up. It almost never rains from mid-June until November so forget any raincoats or umbrellas just bring sundresses and swim suits. June is the coolest summer month. 75-80 degrees. We call it June gloom. The first two or three weeks are overcast with the sun coming out in the afternoon. As it gets closer to July it starts getting hotter with August and September being the hottest months. 90 – 105 degrees. There is a big difference in the temperature from where we live in the San Fernando Valley to the beach. Although we are only twenty-five miles from the ocean there could be a thirty-degree difference in temperature. When you see the temperature for Los Angeles add ten to twenty degrees to it for our community.

We have had a good response to our last letter. Because we need to set a date we can’t wait for those who have not responded. I hope the dates we select are good for everyone. We received answers from thirteen families and individuals which adds up to about thirty including children. Almost everyone said that any date would be okay so we are accommodating the ones who had a preference.

We will begin the activities on Thursday, June 27 and party until Sunday, June 30, 2002. Feel free to come earlier and stay longer.

Since we now have a date we will be able to plan the events. We will get tickets for a Los Angeles Dodger baseball game hopefully against the St. Louis Cardinals. If not who cares it will be a fun time. We are planning a picnic, party and a golf event. We plan to have a reception party the day that most people arrive.

We will be able to accommodate some of you in our homes but space is limited. We will get a list of the local hotels and their rates and provide them to you. There are two airports in the area. Los Angeles International and Burbank. Burbank is more convenient and closer to us but LAX might be less expensive and is closer to Paul. Either airport is fine. Check with your travel agent or the Internet to get the best price. The Los Angeles area is spread out so you might want to rent a car. Public transportation sucks. We will pick people up from the airport or advise you on how to travel to our area. We will supply you with maps.

Besides the reunion there is a lot to see in this area. We will provide you with a list of things to do and places to see. If you have any questions feel free to ask and we will hopefully answer your questions. Through my work I can get discount tickets for major attractions.

We understand that that most of you have to travel a great distance but since we are planning ahead hopefully most will be able to attend. We are not asking for a head count at this time but as it gets closer we will ask if you are coming so that we can plan the activities.

We love all of you and anticipate a great 2nd annual reunion.
