I am starting to research the Kudrna family. John J. Kudrna departed Bohemia around April 1869 and arrived in the U.S. in May of that year. Indications are that he arrived in Tabor, SD in 1870 and homesteaded just outside this small town. John was accompanied by his wife, Anna Severa. I have considerable information about the family after their arrival here. Tabor SD is a small community of about 450 people. The original settlement was probably 100% Czech descent although that has changed considerably over the years. Tabor still manages to host a 2-day Czech Days celebration each June that attracts thousands of people. |
