Southern Roots really do grow deep! I started researching the family lineage for my grandmother who will be 95 in November. Since then, I have fallen under the influence of the Genealogy Bug. So, with lots of help from books, car journeys, and other folks, here is what I have. The most common names are Cunningham, Smith, Griffin, Whittington, Johnson, Allen, Hinson, Hannah, Taylor, Thompson, Jackson, and a mysterious Mary Benthall who was born in KY but was reared and died in MS. There are a lot of names here!
Update: Sine the above paragraph was written, Grandmother passed away and left a huge hole in my resources and research. I miss her so much even though she died in 2001 and it has been almost 6 years.
I am proud of my Southern heritage and, yes, I speak with a Southern drawl. When I was in the USN, I was stationed in Northwestern Territory of Australia--way outback! I was the only person from the deep south on duty. I had Aussies coming up and asking for the "bird who talks so funny". I told them that they were the ones who talked funny. They used a lot of idioms that I did not understand and had to have them explained to me. What is the phrase....Ya'll come see us!
If you have more information on my family lines, please let me know! Remember, Southern Roots Grow Deep!!
