Stanaland and Standland. Other names that are in my branch of the family are: Hart, Hartsfield, Webb, Whitaker
Primary locations: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina.
It never ceases to amaze me how many times when I am out and about, I look at a person and when I see some sort of resemblance I wonder, “Are we by some chance related?”
History was not one of my favorite classes in school; as I continue to dig and delve into my family history though, I find I am drawn to learn more. To learn that many families “migrated” from the North Carolina’s through Georgia, through Alabama, through Florida and even as far as Texas has really sparked me to continue my search. I am a descendant of one of those families that has done just that. I am Elizabeth Carlenna Standland Kyllonen. In my digging and delving over the past couple of years I have come in contact with distant cousins in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas and where my blood runs the deepest, right here in Florida. It puts a smile on my face to talk with other people who are also curious about our family, who are curious to know who we are and where we came from.
It is obvious, as seen by the spelling of our name, that there has been a change or two made along the way. What I have come to find in my research is that the change in our branch took place with my great-great grandfather Needham Bryant Standland. Why the change occurred I have no idea, be it a misprint or just a misunderstanding of wording, whatever the cause, we are still the same in blood. We are all “Descendants of Hugh Stanaland”.
I would like to thank all of those who have helped me along this path. . The beginning of the list starts with none other than that in the book “Stanaland’s of the U.S.” – Compiled by Schuyler D. Stanaland, and after the listing of my great-grandfather, Wiggins Wesley Standland, the rest comes from the sharing I have received from my cousins near and far. Thank you, this is for you.
