3. ABRAHAM2 SMITH (PETER1) was born May 19, 1795 in North Carolina, and died Jul 1871 in Henry County,Iowa. He married ELEANOR VAN DORIN Feb 13, 1816 in Switzerland County,Indiana.

Came to Henry county after 1845 (1850 census lists youngest child born about 1845 in Indiana).
Buried Lambrith Cemetery with War of 1812 marker.

Abraham's family moved to Switzerland, Indiana in 1814. Elander/Eleanor's family moved there in 1804. Here they became acquainted and friendship ripened into love, and the marriage was celebrated in 1815. They remained in Switzerland County, Indiana until 1833, and here their seven oldest children were born. In that year they emigrated to Hancock County, Indiana at which place the five youngest children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Smith made hancock County thier home until 1849 when they came to Henry County, Iowa locating near Rome. Here he bought 120 acres of raw land and developed a fine farm, residing here until his death in July 1871. Mrs. Smith died 3 August 1875. They were both members of the Methodist Episcopal Church at the time of their death, but had formerly belonged to the Baptist Church before coming to Iowa. They were devoted members of the society, and no couple in the county were more highly esteemed than they were.

Dear Brother, I take pen in hand to let you know that we are all well
hoping that these lines may find you all well, now I will inform you
that my son Jabeze and his family has left Greenfield, Indiana and came
out here and is wintering here with us, and he likes Iowa very well so
far as he has seen of it, and Peter is still in oragan and he rote to us
that the indians is at war with the whites al through oragon he sais all
the indians west of the rocky mountains have joined together, and they
think goverment will have to send fifty thousand men to save orogan, now
I will ---- your request conserning my money that is coming to me I want
ou to send it by daniel to me, or any other person that is safe, and
take their Receipt so as to make it safe to you, and as soon as i get
the money i will send you a recet by mail and when you get it you can
drop a line to me to let me know that you got it, unkel Isaac
Limbacks'alfred was here to see us and he said it was not safe to send
money by letter, if Brother daniel is coming out he can bring it to me
and oblige me in so doing, and if no one comes from your part of the
country that you can send it to me rite to me and i will try to send by
someone for it, rite often and let us know how you all are getting
along.
