The earliest Hatton I'm directly descendent from Samuel Hatton from England. Story tells he ran away to Ireland, finding no work there, he immigrated to America, Virginia to be exact. As a young man, He worked on George Washington's farm and served in the revolution under Captain William Haffner from 1777 to 1781. Before entering the service he married Rosanna Queen daughter of John Queen. Samuel and Roseanna had thirteen children. After serving in the Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War, he and his family lived in Washington Co, Maryland and Hampshire Co, West Virginia, and finally settled in the Big Sandy River valley near Huntington, West Virginia. Many of his descendants still live in the area. |
