      1. Coszn1 Gerritszen was born Abt. 1611 in Holland,, and died Aft. 1677 in Tappan, Rockland county, New York. He married Vrouwtje Coszn's Abt. 1633 in Holland. She was born Abt. 1618 in Holland, and died Unknown in Tappan, Rockland county, New York.

Notes for Coszn Gerritszen:
The exact location of Coszn's birth in Holland is not known, but records suggest that the year of birth must have been ca. 1611. The first known record that we have of Coszn is when he appeared in Court in New Amsterdam on 14 July, 1653. He also appeared in Court on 02 August, 1653 versus Guert Coerten. This Guert insisted that Mrs Gerritszen, wife of Coszn Gerritsen slandered Guert's wife as a whore and a thief. Coszn appeared in Court and asked for a copy of the Plaintiffs complaint. On 25 August, 1653 Vroutje Gerrits, the wife of Coszn appeared again in Court with Guert Coerten's wife. However, the case was still not finished. On 03 May, 1661 Couzyn Gerritsen was a Plaintiff against Ryck Hendricksen. Ryck had agreed to saw some timber for a wainscot for Couzyn, which he will not do. The Court ruled in favor of Couznyn. Also on 21 March, a1662 Coszn Gerritsen was arrested in a case against Dirck Gerrizen Van Tright. On 25 April, 1665 Couszn Gerriszen was a plaintiff against Eghbert Woutersen. In this Court action Couszyn wanted possession of a farm owned by Wouter Van Twiller's according to an act executed by him, and Gerrit Rees. He stated that he was in use of this farm for 4 or 5 years for Van Rensselaer, and that Killiaen Rensselaer promised he would have authority over said farm. This is the first time that we find the true reason why Cosyn Gerritszen came to New Amsterdam, that is as a tenant farmer for Rensselaer. On 22 August, 1665 his farm was located near the present day Astor Place, having a frontage of 16 rods on the Bowery, and running thence west for another 100 rods (Hoffman, E.S. 2, 193). It was located on old Greenwich lane, thusly crossing Broadway, and Waverly place between 5th, and 6th avenue. On 10 November, 1641 he was witness to a baptism, listed as a wheelwright, in the NYDRC. He was again listed as a witness to a baptism in this church on 15 Jan., 1676.

  Notes for Vrouwtje Cozyns:
It is very possible that this Vrouwtje was not the child of this couple based on the birth date, and her mother's birth date, more research is needed to place this child to its rightful parents
