Descendants of Jean Rapareillet

Generation No. 1

      1. Jean1 Rapareillet was born Bet. 1500 - 1508 in Valenciennes, Flanders, France, and died September 19, 1567 in Walloon Church de Ceme, Hampton, England.

Notes for Jean Rapareillet:
Jean is the first known ancestor to the famous American family named de Rapalje. His family was early on a rebellious family who followed the dictates of the French Huguenot faith, and being a reformist family found themselves persecuted in France, and some of this line fled to England for safety. The surname itself has been spelled in various ways over the years, and some of the variations found include, Rapareillet, Raparlier, Rapaylles, Rapolyle, Raparlle, Rapareille, and de Rapalje. The last spelling was the family name of Joris Jansen de Rapalje who was the American original. As early as the 1560's we find reference to Jean, and some of his relatives in the Eglise de Ste. Cene in Southampton, England. Also members of this Protestant family attended services in the St. Stephens Parish in London, and the Threadneedle Huguenot church in London. Also many members of this family attended the parish church of L'Eglise Wallonne in Norwich, England. These records can be found in the London Huguenot Society publications. He was buried in the Cemetery on 21 September, 1567.
