      1. Symon Janse2 Van Arsdalen (Jansen1) (Source: "Passengers to New Netherland, 1654-1664", Holland Society Year Book, 1902..) was born Abt. 1629 in Bornholm, Aarsdale, Denmark, and died October 29, 1710 in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York. He married Pieterje Claessen Abt. 1659 in Amersfoort, Long Island, New York, daughter of Claes Cornelissen and Geertie Nannachs. She was born October 28, 1640 in New York Dutch Reformed church, and died Unknown in Amersfoort, Brooklyn, New York.

Notes for Symon Janse Van Arsdalen:
Bornhold Island is 23 miles long, and 18 miles wide, and it has been in the hands of the Danish for a long time. The island was known for its farming, and stone and marble quarries. Symon may have come to New Amsterdam during the Swedish migration ca. 1653. He made a joint deposition with his father-in-law Claes Cornelissen on 19 Feb., 1664. On 03 May, 1660 he was made Schepen (Magistrate) of Amersfoort, Long Island. He lived for over 50 years in Amersfoort, where he held title to farm land. Symon often only went under the name of Symon Jansen, or Symon Janse, but later on he used the surname of Van Arsdalen probably because he came from the town of Aarsdale. His ancestors took the surname of Van Arsdale, even though many variations were found for the name. On 03 July, 1663 (Register of New Netherlands p.143) he was selected to represent Amersfoort in the New Amsterdam convention. They spoke about arming the population against the impending British invasion of the city. On 02 Sept., 1686 he paid 40 guilders to the Dutch Reformed church in Flatbush, Brooklyn, along with Koiert Stevensen (See Voorhees chapter), and they were listed as Elders of this church. On 02 March, 1699 he paid taxes in Flatlands (Flatlands Town Records). On 10 Feb., 1710 he paid more money for the poor chest in the Flatlands Church, and he was now about 81 years old.
