I am a 5th generation Californian. My family go back to 1846 in CA. I've been doing family research since the early 1990s. It's been a great adventure and I've meet many wonderful people. My husband's father's side, the Lacey, and Americanized name, go back to Austria/Hungary, immigrating to PA in the early 1900s. His mother's side, the Lymans, go back to the Mayflower, but more recently to NB. My mother's side, the Balls/Maxwells, is from TN and VA. My father's side, the Mannings, are from NC to CA. The most exciting person in my family tree, to me, is Samuel Kyburz, who worked for John Sutter in CA in the pre-state days. I've written a paper on him and you can access it athttp://cagenweb.com/eldorado/biographies.
