My Grandmother missed getting on the ship in 1912 because she had cryed all night and they thought she might have pink eye. The ship she was about to board was the Titanic. She and My grandfather married in August 1912. Her name was Mary Bujas. His name was Joseph Mankowski. He imagrated in 1911. I am not real sure of the way they spelled his name when he came into the country. They were from around Krakow, Poland. He had gone into Pennslyvania to the cole mines. He left from there and moved into Massachuatts then on to Torrington, Connecticut. They had 3 boys and 2 girls. John, Stanley, Eddie, Sophie and Anne. My father was Eddie. The boys bought a farm in GA and moved to GA because of the taxes being so high in Connecticut. My husband is a Lackey from North Carolina. They were from around Old Fort, High Shoals and Gastonia. He is also kine to the Hornes. Annie Maye Horne at Pacolet, South Carolina was his grandmother. His grandfathers name was James Thomas Lackey. They had 4 sons and 3 daughters. They were Charles Vester Lackey Sr., Eva Pearl Lackey, James Harvey Lackey, John Craig Lackey, Alma Frances Lackey, Elsie Mae Lackey and Wade Thomas Lackey. My husbands father was James Harvey Lackey. He moved to Covington, GA and worked in the cotton mill for years then went to work at GA Tech as a lab technician. If you have any information on any of these families please contact me. We will be glad to share. Thank you.
