Notes for Joseph Wilson Hicks:
Information given by Thomas and Nora Hicks that was told to them at the funeral.
Joe and Nellie were share croppers on a form owned by a German man named Donbush in Redwood, Phoenix, area in Mississippi.
Joe had choking/strangling spells (asma?) and couldn't catch his breath. The spells were usually at night and he didn't get up and get dressed except for this one time. He got up, got dressed, and told his wife Nellie "Well old girl I'm not going to make it this time." She told him don't talk like that. He went out to the front porch, sat down, slumped forward and was gone.
He and Nellie are buried at a church graveyard in Phoenix area. WESLEY CHAPEL METHODIST CHURCH CEMETERY
Occupation: Farm Laborer. Education: Could read and write.
Joseph was listed as single on 1910 census. He was living in Yazoo Co. when he registered for WWI. Joseph is listed on the Enumeration of Educable Children of Kemper Co. 1896 as being 7 years old.
Joe and Nellie were married 3 days before Lozan, Joseph's sister.
The Kemper County census 1900 Enumeration of Children page 35 has listed for T.C. Hicks
