
I have chosen the time period of the late 1700's to start this section. Anyone knowing this area would agree that starting any later would be a huge undertaking. Eventually I may be crazy enough to add in the early to mid 1800 families.
Detroit during the late 1700's had a direct link to Essex County and its' start.
I will try to limit these pioneers to those who first came to reside on the Canadian side before 1800.

ALLAN, James born 1793, married Felicity Chaput, who was born 25 Oct 1793 at Assumption, Sandwich. All 11 of their children were baptised at Assumption Parish
ALLEN, James of the British Navy. He married to Anne Loveless and together they had 7 children.
ASKIN, John born 1739 , of Scottish descent. He was born in 1750, a commissary by occupation. John died in Windsor and was buried in 1818 at Assumption Parish. John's first wife is not known. His second wife, Marie Archange Barthe, he married at Detroit in 1771. His third wife, whom he also married at Detroit is not know by name. John had at least 11 children.
BABY, James, married to Elisabeth Abbott. His children were all baptised at Assumption.
BABY, Francois married to Francoise Abbot on 05-09-1795
BARRON , BARON dit LUPIEN, Pierre born 1767 and resided in Malden. He married Susanne Pouget. By occupation Pierre was a miller and a yeoman.
BARRON, BARON dit LUPIEN, Charles resided in Amherstburg. He married to Marie Vernette at Assumption Parish on 20 1799.
BELLEPERCHE, James (Jacques), was born in Detroit in 1749. He married Cecilia Lauson in 1783. After their marriage the couple resided on Lot 124, 1st concession of Sandwich East. They had five children, which were baptised at Assumption Parish.
BENETEAU, Francois, married at Quebec on 8 September 1767, to Francoise Gagnon, By trade he was a saddler. His death was caused by drowning in Riviere-aux-Canards (Canard River). His son Charles married Josephe Tourangeau 17-11-1807 and Catherine Vigneaux on 12-5-1814
BERGERON, Simon, married to Catherine Le Beau. His son Simon, married Agathe Beneteau on 7-3-1791
BERTHIAUME, Joseph married Catherine Pilet. Their children were baptised at Assumption.
BERTIUAME, Andre married Angelique Chauvin in 01-1791
BERTRAND, Jean Baptiste was married to Madeleine Martin dit St. Jean. Their son, Jean Baptiste, married Marguerite Pare on 02-02-1792.
BEZAIRE, Jacques married Catherine Mette 20-2-1775.
BINEAU dit LaJuenesse aka BENO, John Binau list on page 713 of "Founders of the French Colony of Detroit". The Bineau family settled in the Windsor/Detroit region in 1750 and was given land in Windsor at the time. They are descended from Louis Bineau and Madeleine Lereau found in Montreal in 1735. The founder in Canada was Jean Bineau b 1675; "fils de Jean et de Marie Binet, deBuisson, diocese de Poitiers; s 18 nov.1747, au Detroit and his wife Marie-Anne Pothier, b. 1689; veuve deMichel Priant; .... Louis is styled as "Dit Lajeunesse, soldat de Blainville"
BOTSFORD,Daniel married to Anne Kemp. Daniel was a Reeve of Malden.
BOYLE, John born 1775 in Ireland, was an innkeeper and tailor by trade. He married to Rosanna McLean in 1799. They had seven children. John located to Amherstburg between 1790-1800
CALDWELL, Capt. William of Irish descent, born about 1750. His first wife was an Indian woman, possible the sister of Indian Chief, Blue Jacket. With this woman he is said to have had a son and a daughter. His second wife was Susanne Baby and together they had 8 children. Captain Caldwell was a captain of the British Troops and he died in Amherstburg in 1822.
CAMPEAU OR CAMPAU, Michel married to Josephe Duteau. Together this couple had sons, Pierre who married Madeleine Godefroi in 08-01-1776 and son Michel or Antoine who married to Susanne Cuillerier on 28-01-1788.
CHARRON, Peter married Charlotte Campau on 10-03-1777 and he married second to Jeanne Peltier on 07-03-1791.
CORNWALL, Wheeler, carpenter by trade. He married Sylvia ? and they had 3 children baptised at St. John Anglican Parish.
DELISLE, Noel married toAngelique Maillot. Their son Denis married to Marie Boissier. Their son, Jean Baptiste married to Jane Parker and their son, Charles married to Elizabeth Alloir dit LaPierre
DROUILLARD, Francis married Marie Anne Villers dit St. Louis at Detroit on 13-01-1766. They had sons, Alexis and Solomon.
DUFF, Alexander and William, were brothers of Scottish descent.
Alexander married Phyllis Grant in 1881 and they had 10 children. Alexander died at age 39.
William, who was a Barrack Master, married to Susanna McGreger in 1810. Together they had 10 children.
DUFOUR (Bonvivant), Peter married Mary Charlotte Gloria. Peter was a soldier.
DUMOUCHEL (Doumouchel), Louis Vital married Magdelene Goyou at Windsor on 22-11-1773.
ELLIOTT, Capt. Mathew officer of the British Indian Department, and a trader. Matthew was born in Ireland about 1739. His first wife was a Shawnee woman, who was mother to sons, Alexander and Matthew Jr. Matthew's second wife was Sarah Donovan, with whom he had sons, Francis Gore and Robert Herriot Barclay. Alex died 12-17-1812 by Indians.
FOX (FUCHS),Philip born in Richen Township, Baden, Germany in 1751 or on 13 July 1749. His parents could be either Hans Michel Fuchs and Christina Uxor or Christian and Catherina Fuchs. There is some indication the Hans Michel Fuchs and Christina Uxor are his parents and that he was born on 13 July 1749. On April 1772 Philip married to Catherine Lamer who was born in 1752 at Burringa, Baden, Germany. Together they went to England in 1772. They then travelled from Liverpool by ship for 14 weeks to Baltimore, Maryland, where they stayed for about four years. They then moved to Pennsylvania. It was here that the Fox family met the Wigles (also mentioned in this list). The Fox family reside here for about 14 years and had seven children. Together the Fox family and the Wigles moved to Detroit, Mich. in 1786. This is where they met Leonard Kratz (Scratch) (also listed here). In 1791 Philip moved to Petite Cote Lot 53 and in 1792 moved to Gosfield Township, Lot 10. In 1797 Philip and his son Jonas drew Lots 7,8.and 9 near Ruthven. Philip died in Gosfield, Essex County in 1815 and his wife Catherine died there in 1802, both are buried on Lot 10, Wesley Wigle Farm. Philip died owning about 600 acres of land. Jonas, Philip's first son, was born about 1774 at York, Pennsylvania. Jonas died 1846 at Ruthven. Jonas married on 3 May 1801 at Amherstburg to Susan Bruner, daughter of Adam and Mary Stewart. They had 9 children.
GIRTY,Simon was born in 1741 to an Irish immigrant. His family, as a young boy, was captured by raiders. Simon was taken to go with Seneca Indian tribe, where he remained for eight years. Simon joined the Indian Department at Detroit. He married Catherine Malott in 1790, and they settled on Lot 11, Concession 1 in Malden Township. They had four children. Simon died in 1818.
GIRARD, Toussaint who died in 1887 at age 63, married to Angelique Lucier who died 1896 at age 63. They had 5 children and resided in Colchester North.
GODET (Marentette), Paul married Amable Serat dit Coquillard on 26-11-1787
MARENTETTE, Benjamin, born in Windsor 1783 and married to Genevieve Peltier. They had 5 children.
GOYEAU, Louis married to Theresa Janis in Windsor 06-01-1777.
GRAVELINE, Joseph a carpenter by trade. He married first to Marie Louise Lamirande on 11-01-1802 and he married secondly to Marguerite Boussie on 10-10-1808. Joseph died in 1852 and was the father of 14 children.
JANISSE, Francois a carpenter and builder by trade, married to Genevieve Delieres at Windsor on 10-02-1783
MAILLOUX, Peter and wife Tharaize Janisse. Peter was born in Windsor in 1790 and Tharaize was born in Sandwich West in 1794. Peter was a child of Joseph Mailloux and Monique Draitre. He was one of 11 children. Peter resided in Tilbury West until 1835, then resided in Windsor at the homestead of his father. Peter and his wife had five sons.
McKEE, Alexander, of Irish descent. He was born in 1735 to an Irish trader and a Shawnee mother. He married a Shawnee woman. Alexander became an interpreter and a Captain in the British Indian department. His Son, THOMAS, served a Superintendent of the Brithish Indian Department at Amherstburg in 1801. in 1797, Thomas married Terese Askin.
MELOCHE, Antoine and Angelique Guille (Tourangeau), married at Windsor on 28-11-1793.
MELOCHE, Jean Baptiste, born 1771. He came to Amherstburg in 1786 and died in 1830. He was the father to four children.
MICKLE, William was a master carpenter and a native of Sctland. He was in Amherstburg in 1796. He married to Hannah Turner of Chatham, Kent Co. in 1792. Together they had five children.
OUELLETTE, Jean Baptiste married Suzanne Putelle at Windsor on 07-01-1765. They resided in Tilbury and together had seven children.
PARENT, Julien and Susanne Meloche married at Windsor on 20--4-1784.
PARENT, Laurent and Madeleine Janis married at Windsor on 28-11-1771.
POUGET, Joseph, son of Joseph Sr., married to Josette Bissonette in 1786. Joseph Jr. died in 1820.
REAUME, Charles was living in the Malden area during 1796. He was born in 1743. His wife was Angelique. He was an interpreter for the Indian Department.
REAUME, Claude married Genevieve Janis at Windsor on 07-01-1766

REAUME, Paschal married to Cecile Pouget on 23-04-1795. He died in battle on 21-01-1813
REAUME, Antoine born in Essex County in 1795 and died at about the age of 80 years. He was the son of Judge Reaume. Antoine married to Charlotte St. Louis and together they had eight children.
RENAUD, Frank who came to Amherstburg about 1760. He died at the age to 83. His son, Lambert Renaud married to Josette Parent.
REYNOLDS, Thomas was a Deputy Commissary for the British garrison at Detroit. He died 25-04-1810. He and his wife Margaret had four children.
RIVEAU (Lajuenesse), Children of Jean Louis and Marie Josephe Dinan:
Louise married Marie Jeanne Campeau on 11-02-1782
SCRATCH (Kratz), Leonard born in 1756 in Germany, was a soldier sent to the colonies. He decided to stay in America. He was contracted as a guide for families travelling to Kentucky and eventually met his wife, Mary Munger through his work. He and his wife were captured by Indians and he was sold to an American officer. He was later reunited with his wife. Leonard and Mary came to reside on Belle Isle where their son Peter was born. Leonard died in 1829.
SPLITLOG, Indian Chief of Anderdon Township. Chief Splitlag was active in war and wounded seven times. When he died , his nephew Joseph was elected to Chief for 50 years until his death in 1885. Joseph married to Angelique, the daughter of Capt. Pierre Fortier of the Royal Marine Dept.

TOFFLEMIRE, Martin built the first grist on Grosse Ile. Martin Tofflemire was married toEve Munger, Henry Tofflemire was married to Julia Fox. Martin and Henry were both granted land in 1794. Wrights, Wigles, Girtys, Fuchs, Brunners, Stewarts all married Tofflemires. The Tofflemires were captured at Ruddles Rort and march to Detroit with Leonard Kratz.
VILLERS (St. Louis) Children of Louis and Marie Joseph Morin:
Louis married Charlotte Joachim dit Auriendo at Assumption
Parish on 08-01-1775.
WARROW, Salomon who died 4 Oct 1830 at St. John the Baptist Church in Amherstburg at age 67 years. Salomon built a log dwelling in Anderdon in 1798. His son Joseph was born 12 Mar 1805 in the log dwelling and died on 11 June 1868 and is buried at the Wyandotte Indian Cemetery in Anderdon Township. Joseph's son, Chief Francis Joseph Warrow ( Ta-Yaw-No-Ka ) was born 8 February 1823.
WHITE, Joseph born about 1802 to Baptiste and Marguerite Dayantete. Joseph was the last of the Wyandotte Chiefs, acting as chief for 30 years. He married to Angelique Fortier in 1832 and he died in 1855. They had 11 children together.
WIGLE, John Wendel born in Germany in 1753, married in 1776 to Julianne Romer. They came to Essex County about 1792 and together they had 11 children.
WRIGHT, Philip (UEL)
WRIGHT, Henry born ca. 1750, of English descent, married Mary Christina KLINGENSMITH in Pa. They had 8 children, William m. Elizabeth Lypps, Philip m. (1) Jane (Anna) Dowler (2) Deliah Malott, Henry m. (1) Deborah Hitchcock (2) Hannah Lypps, Peter m. Elizabeth Snider, Elizabeth m. John Brush, Mary m. Asa Wilcox, Matilda (Mattie) m. Samuel Watson, Thomas m. (1) Mary Leighton (2) Jennie Little (3) Abigail Larabee and Catherine m. Henry Lypps. Henry and his family moved from Pennsylvania to the British Fort at Detroit and then to Grosse Ile along with many other loyalists and eventually settled on Lots 76 and 77 in Colchester S. Twp.
