Will of George Lake

In the name of God, Amen. I, George Lake, of the County of Marion and State of Virginia, being of sound mind do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form as follows: That is to say I desire that after all my debts and funeral expenses are paid, I give to my wife Mary Lake the use of all my personal property and the use of all my land property and during the time of raising the balance of my children to the age of 21 years and then I desire that she shall have one third of all the personal property, and one third of the land during natural life and to have the use of the house and I further desire that the balance of my property after the one third is taken out for my wife to be equally divided among all my children except those that are married and I wish the amount of what they have got from me to be deducted out of their proportion so that all my children will have an equal share, and I also give to my children - that is to say Ila Lake, Jane Musgrave, William Lake, Elizabeth Hayhurst, Sarah Henderson, Margaret Lake, Anna Lake, Nimrod A. Lake, George W. Lake, and Thomas G. Lake all my land in the County of Taylor and County of Marion after taking out my wife ________her lifetime to be equally divided amongst them, their heirs, executors, administrators, assigns______forever and lastly I do hereby appoint and constitute my friends Ila Lake and William Lake executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other or former wills or testaments by me heretofore made as witness whereof have hereunto set my hand and my seal this 16th day of April, 1846.

6. NIMROD2 LAKE (WILLIAM1) was born June 21, 1787, and died November 07, 1858 in Braxton County, WV. He married ELIZABETH MARGARET KNOTTS February 02, 1813 in Harrison County, WV, daughter of LEWIS KNOTTS.

Notes for NIMROD LAKE:
They were married February 2, 1813. Margaret was the daughter of Lewis (or Louis) Knotts (from the marriage certificate, but very hard to read). Several researchers believe this is the same Nimrod Lake who settled in Braxton County, Virginia (now West Virginia) and fathered 16 children. This appears to be a reasonable assumption based on the fact that death records show his parents as William and Mary Lake. There are also some conflicting facts that need researched and documented. In the Braxton County, WV census of 1850, Nimrod's wife is Elizabeth. In his death record, his wife is also Elizabeth. So what happened to Margaret Knots Lake? Could she be Margaret Elizabeth? Another source gives Nimrod's birth date as August 3, 1784. Neither this date nor the one above calculate with the information on his death certificate which says he was 78 years, 4 months, 14 days old when he died. The fact that he fathered 16 children might also support the possibility that Margaret may have died and he remarried. These questions need addressed before we can be certain that this link is accurate.
