Descendants of William Lake

Generation No. 3

9. PEYTON3 LAKE (VINCENT2, WILLIAM1) was born January 11, 1796, and died June 1836. He married (1) SUSANNAH (LURANER) FLEMING July 1817 in Harrison County, WV, daughter of JAMES FLEMING. She was born July 26, 1798, and died Abt. 1824. He married (2) REBECCA BAILEY April 19, 1825, daughter of JOHN BAILEY and ELIZABETH. She was born February 1799.

Notes for P
EYTON LAKE:
Peyton and Susannah were married in July 1817. Their marriage bond was given July 21, 1817. Susannah was the daughter of James Fleming.

Rebecca was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Bailey. She is buried at the old Baptist Cemetery just east of Simpson, West Virginia.

Peyton Lake left his home at Webster in 1836 for Winchester, Virginia to bring a load of salt to merchants of the area. His horses ran away and he was killed. As there were no railroads and other roads were hard to travel over, he was buried in Winchester. After Peyton's death, Rebecca married Robert Bartlett.

The information on Peyton and Susanna Fleming's children and grandchildren came from E. Murray Taylor by letter in 1997. He in turn received it from George Barnum who in turn got it from a hand written manuscript prepared in 1959 by Parker Selvey of Grafton, WV. Much of it has been verified by the 1880 census, but there may be some errors. Also, a subpoena in chancery in the State of West Virginia, Wood County, dated December 20, 1921 giving a list of inheritants for the estate of Will Davidson makes this appear fairly accurate.
