25. JOHN R.³ LAKE (NIMROD², WILLIAM¹) was born Abt. 1822, and died March 17, 1865. He married MELCENA GREGORY April 20, 1855 in Braxton County, WV. She was born Abt. 1835.

26. DAVID NORRIS³ LAKE (NIMROD², WILLIAM¹) was born January 1830 in Monongalia County, VA / WV, and died 1899. He married (1) LOUISA STRADER RIFFLE. He married (2) MARGARET JANE PRITT December 29, 1853 in Sutton, WV (home of Leroy Griffins), daughter of ISAAC PRITT and MARGARET. She was born Abt. 1834, and died 1894.

Notes for DAVID NORRIS LAKE:
David and Margaret were married December 29, 1853 at the home of Leroy Griffins of Sutton, WV. Margaret was the daughter of Isaac and Margaret Pritt. He married Louisa on October 18, 1894. All his children were with his first wife, Margaret.

(1) Braxton County, WV marriage records show David is 22 years and 11 months old at the time of his first marriage and that he was born in Monongalia County, WV. Margaret Pritt was 18 and born in Bath County, VA. This record also gives parents of both. They were married by A. H. Boggs, minister of the M.E. Church.
(2) Second marriage information given by Sue Pringle, a great grandchild of Arminta Lake Alkire. Also verified by Upshur County, WV Marriage Book 4 - Page 14.
(3) Braxton County, WV birth records 1853 - 1886 for James W., Elizabeth, two unnamed infants born dead and Sarah Ellen. On Sarah Ellen's birth announcement, the full names of the parents are given as David Norris Lake and Margaret Jane Lake.
(4) 1870 census - Lewis County, WV - Batelle Township, page 294.
(5) David and Margaret are buried in the Haymond Cemetery at Kanawha Head, WV. Birth and death years are from the grave markers (information from Sue Pringle, Bedford, Texas - 1996). In the 1880 Census for Upshur County, WV, Margaret is listed as 42 years old, so there is a conflict here.

She was the daughter of Robert and Betsy Mealey. The name also appears as Meeley. James was 25 years old and widowed when he married Sarah on February 18, 1879. Sarah was 23.

Sue Pringle, Bedford, Texas, sent me a copy of a sales slip from David Alkires general merchandise and feed store in Astor, West Virginia from the 1920's.

Per Sue Pringle, Arminta and David had three sons and 2 daughters.
